Prada is a high-end Italian fashion label. The company started as a leather goods shop in 1913 by brothers Mario and Martino Prada in Milan, Italy. The company was passed down to his daughter Luisa Prada who ran the company for almost twenty years. Her own daughter, Miuccia Prada, joined the company in 1970, eventually taking over for her mother in 1978. The brand eventually grew into one of the most influential designer brands under Miuccia Prada's direction. She met her soon-to-be husband Patrizio Bertelli in 1977 who had experience in making leather goods. He advised Miuccia to stop importing English goods and to re-vamp the brand's style. Under Miuccia the brand created its staple simple, nylon bags and the "classic Prada handbag." In 1992, the high-end fashion brand Miu Miu, named after Miuccia's nickname, launched. Miu Miu catered to younger consumers, such as celebrities. The company is still a prominent fashion brand which sells ready-to-wear items, leather goods, beauty products, and shoes.
